Signs Your Office Security Setup Is Overdue for an Upgrade

It’s easy for businesses to overlook their onsite security when everything’s seemingly going fine — but it can quickly turn unavoidable if something goes wrong.
All too often, businesses set their security measures and then simply forget about them. But what worked sufficiently when you were a young business could prove to be a liability once you’ve become more established. In many cases, businesses are simply unaware that they have so many blind spots in their security; individually, they may appear small, but put them all together, and you have a potentially highly vulnerable workspace on your hands.
In this post, we’re going to take a closer look at some of the telltale signs that it’s time to rethink your workspace security.
You Still Rely On Physical Keys
Businesses stick with keys because it’s the easiest option, especially since they probably came with the workspace. Yet, while physical keys are great for your home, they’re not for a growing business. Many businesses have multiple copies of the same keys, and all it takes is for one to go missing before you have a security vulnerability. After all, you can’t deactivate a key once it’s left your control. All you can do is change the locks.
Keycards and fobs provide much better security, since not only can they be deactivated, but they also leave a data trail in a way that physical keys never could.
You Rely On Paper Sign-In Processes (If At All)
Knowing who’s in the building is vital for maintaining safe and secure premises, yet a staggeringly large percentage of companies still don’t have a foolproof way of gathering this information. Some businesses rely on paper sign-in sheets, while others don’t capture this data at all. Even sign-in sheets can be relatively useless, since they’re not always filled in.
And that can create problems. If you have a security issue, then the sign-in sheet is unlikely to tell you too much, and it can also make it difficult to make insurance claims when there’s little data to provide. Incorporating an access control solution offers a convenient way to seriously enhance your workplace security, ensuring that only accredited people are allowed to enter your facility. And if anything does happen, you’ll have a long data trail that can be extremely useful for reconstructing what might have happened — and who was involved.
Your Security Setup Hasn’t Grown With You
Businesses have a lot on their plates, especially growing businesses. With so much to take care of, the security side of the business’s operations tends to fall pretty far down on the priorities list.
If your security setup doesn’t grow alongside the business, the vulnerabilities tend to present themselves. For instance, a fast-growing company may suddenly find that they have a long list of new employees, all of whom have access to everything, or that new floors don’t have the same security controls as existing ones. Using a centralized platform can ensure you can manage all new employees and locations from one screen, ensuring your security levels remain high no matter how far the business goes.
